What Makes Food Kosher?
Kosher food adheres to Jewish dietary laws (kashrut) that govern what foods can be eaten and how they must be prepared. This includes:
- Separation of meat and dairy products
- Only consuming meat from animals that chew cud and have split hooves
- Proper slaughter methods (shechita) by trained professionals
- Certification and supervision by recognized kosher authorities
- Pareve foods (neither meat nor dairy) prepared separately
